Site was out, but lots of moves where made.. October 20, 2000 In the past weeks, lots of moves where made by NYC players, for example, has tols in HRU newsletter last month, St. Thomas Moore and Bronx native Carl Krauser commited to Pitt, this comes has no surprise since, Madison Broncos Coaches Paul "Doc" Nicelli and John Sanchez have great tides with the coaching staff at Pitt. * Fairfild recieved a verbal commitment from Ty Goode, a speedy point guard that had a great summer finishing up at Five-Star basketball camp. In Ty, Fairfield will get a hard working kid on and off the court. * There are being great games and this year Fall IS8. The no surprise team to HRU, has being Nate Blues Youth Empowerment. The have blowend out everyone they play in the playoff's. * This site will go into a whole transformation, please be patient.
Match up's are set for the 2000 Youth Empowerment Drazen Petrovic Fall Classic; plus Youth Empowerment Coach Nate Blue makes right moves at IS8 and Devon Neckles school list grows. Playoff games will be friday with Mike King Pest Control facing Evangel Kings at 7pm and Runnin' Rebels going against House of Pain at 8pm. The regular season games where great games to watch and we can expect that these playoffs are going to be exciting. In Other News; HRU was on vacation this past weekend. So I missed lots of the action these past weekend, but sources close to HRU kept this editor informed. Last Friday Youth Empowerment beat Amadou Fall's team, Boys and Girls at IS8 Tip-off Classic. YEI pull together after two devastating losses. According to sources, Coach Nate Blue showed us why his one of the top up and coming coaches in the city. Youth Empowerment flaw in Roosco Biggers from North Carolina and Johnny Carter, one of the few players to stay at Newtown HS, play exceptionally well. * The Broncos lost to the Panthers at Yale University but then the Panthers lost to Riverside in the semis. * Add 2 other schools to Nate Blue's Youth Empowerment Forward, Devon Neckles. Albany and LIU have join the recruiting field with the Brooklyn native. More Stories in HRU Coach's Log.
Nigel Polite leads Runin' Rebels and Evangel Kings roll at Youth Empowerment Fall league; and reports on Coach John Sanchez and Nate Blue. Plus HRU comments on Lfball post. September 30, 2000 Nigel Polite who is emerging as one of the top sophomores in the city, led all scores with 16 points to lead his team, the Runnin' Rebels past Queens Panthers last night at Youth Empowerment Incorporated Drazen Petrovic Fall Classic. Nigel a 6'3" guard with a sweet touch and ability to get to the basket score 8 unanswered points in the winding minutes to secure the win for the Rebels. Vance Ferbee, who refused a scholarship to Christ the King for family reasons, led the Panthers with 12. In the nightcap, Evangel Kings Kasey Label hit a lay-up with 3 seconds remaining in the game to beat Pest Control. The game was close throughout with no team leading by more then 3 points. The kings, who where led by Kasey's 18 and was also the game leading scorer, play hard noise defense and fundamental basketball at the end. Mike King played well but came short on a last second shot. He led Pest Control with 17 points. In Other News; Youth Empowerment Incorporated Director John Sanchez was at the games tonight to watch the action. HRU catch up with him after the game. I asked him about the rumors going around the basketball community about him and asked his thoughts on the whole situation. He did not comment about anything, but he did mentioned to me, that "everyone thinks that your web site, HRU, is edited by me" also he added that "I enjoy the little extra attention, plus am doing nothing wrong, nor am putting Lehman College at risk, since am not breaking any NCAA rules". He also added that "Theres rumors going around that am working kids out, I tell those people, if you seen me doing this, please call the Athletic Director at the institution that pays my bills and inform them of the situation." HRU also asked Coach Sanchez about his relationship with Nate Blue. He simply gave this explanation; " In the spring after the Providence Converse Jam Fest, rumors had us killing each other, fighting about players, Gym's, ect. It even got to a point that someone said we fought in front of everyone in the tournament, and that Fred Hill (Seton Hall top Assistant) had to stop us" He joked about that rumor saying "heh, I look good man! People was saying I beat Nate up and stuff, I look good." But it was just that, a rumor. John went on to say that the incident at Providence was a simple misunderstanding between two competitive guys, and it did not involve any players, he also mentioned that Nate graduated the same year as him and that both went to the same school, Newtown. John Added, "Both of us love basketball and want to help kids." See HRU Coach's log for more on Coach Sanchez and Nate Blue. Also; HRU would like to make a correction and apologize for a misprint on September 25, 2000. Fred Delgado a 6'2" Senior attends Lehman High School in the Bronx, not Edison HS. Fred a decent player played well in the "Hudson Valley 100" impressing coaches around the city. Fred Told HRU that he enjoyed the camp, which gave him the opportunity to play against better player.
8th Annual PSAL Jim Sullivan Basketball Exposure Manhattan, Bronx Wrap-up September 27, 2000 The 8th annual PSAL Jim Sullivan Boys Games came to an end today with the Bronx and Manhattan schools participating. While the other boroughs having bigger size on their roster, the City and the Bronx, rely on speed and defense to win games. The biggest kid out there tonight was a 6'5" center from Urban Peace. The talent was not there, to be honest there was no Division I player on the court tonight, but lots of solid players that can move on to play at a low level in college. The top player in the camp where; * Sharif Shitto (Sr.) 6'4" Kennedy HS - Sharif is a good fundamental player that can run the floor and finish, play defense, pass and rebound. Sharif is a athletic forward that can drive from both wings. His borderline Division II player that can be a Star at Division III. * Lashard Duren (Sr.) 6'3" Kennedy HS - Lashard is definitely the best guard in the Bronx PSAL. With his solid dribble and good decision making Duren can rise his stock this season. He has a good feel for the ball, and at times can be very aggressive around the basket. * Michael Skyers (Sr.) 6'4" M.L. King HS - At 6'4" Michael plays like a big man. Good on the blocks can box out and rebound, Skyers is a hard worker with good work habits. He'll be a great post player if he only was a bid taller, but at his height he must develop a shot. * Jason Stamper (Sr.) 6'4" Manhattan Center HS - Jason hustles and does the little things that teams need to be successful. Can run the floor, and is a good solid rebounder. Others that make the grade where; * Dominic Chow-yuk (Sr.) 6'2" Columbus HS * Gary Ugueto (Sr.) 6'3" George Washington HS * Ahmed Jama (Sr.) 6'5" Taft HS * Alonzo Brown (Jr.) 5'10" Frederick Douglas HS * Cory McCoy (Sr.) 6'5" Art & Design HS * Stephen Melville (Sr.) 6'3" Monroe HS * Ben Kingsley (Sr.) 6'4" Urban Peace HS * Vicente Gonzalez (Sr.) 6'4" Park West HS * Neville Storer (Jr.) 6'4" Walton HS Final thoughts of the 8th Annual PSAL games on the latest coach's log.
8th Annual PSAL Jim Sullivan Basketball Exposure Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island Wrap-up September 26, 2000 Riverbank State Park was the scene for the 8th annual PSAL exposure games. The 2-day event started today with the best PSAL players from Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. The Jim Sullivan games are run by the Coaches Association/UTF and is organized by President Pat Torney. The games where high spirited with highflying dunks, and good solid defense, which is a rarity in this type of games. High school coaches from all over the city where on hand as well as College scouts from all divisions. The games where fun to watch since each PSAL school sent their 2 best players from their respected teams. In that note, players that stand out this night where as follow; * Dashawn Warren (Sr) 6'3" has really develop into a solid all around player. His stock as definitely risen since last year. Dashawn is a pure shooter, solid defender, and can leap up. His a Low Division I player that can excel, if he shapes up his act. What keeps him from being a no brainier Division I player is his Attitude. The word on him is that he has poor work habits, living the Madison Broncos AAU team and playing at his unknown, no-discipline school, didn't and doesn't help him at all, when it comes to Coaches looking at him. But if he can show people that he can be a leader on the court and does well off it, heh, who knows, I might be telling a certain coach in the Bronx; "Sorry, but he might just be too good!" * Damien Herard (Sr) 6'6" Last year Queens had Ronald Yates, this year we have Damien Herard. Good solid player that can run the floor, shot block, and finish. Maybe the best player in Queens, Damien is a strong present on the court and is definitely one of the few players in the PSAL with size and Division I skills. * Nathaniel Parker (Sr) 6'7" This past summer came to his own playing with the Madison Broncos AAU team. Parker is being look at by, New Orleans, Quinnipiac, Manhanthan, C.W. Post, and if he can stay focus on the job at hand, other schools might come in the picture. Although Nathaniel needs to improve his offensive skills, his big plus is that his very active around the basket. * Josh Puello (Sr) 6' Josh is a hard worker who can shot and defend the ball. His lack of size is overcome by his basketball fundamentals. His scrappy play can land him a scholarship somewhere in Division II land. * George Jeferson (Jr) 6'3" Good size and strong in the inside, George can take his game to another level if he works hard in his mobility. At times his to stiff to drive to that basket. But can light it up from outside and if he develops flexibility, George can become All-City this year. Other players worth mentioning are; * Dalton Loughlin (Sr) 6'4" Brooklyn Tech * Carl Rhodes (Sr) 6'2" WC Bryant * Darryl France (Sr) 6'3" Van Buren * Jamel Moye (Sr) 6'4" Newtown * Antoine Miller (Sr) 6'6" Bowne * Charles Jones (Sr) 6'5" Edison * Kenray Smith (Sr) 6'1" Westinghouse * Victor Hunt (Sr) 5'6" Wingate * Carlito Ulett (Sr) 6'2" Midwood * Nicholas Thompson (Sr) 6'7" Erasmus * Davis Moss (Sr) 6'3" Boys & Girls * Jermhal Carty (Sr) 6'4" Clara Barton * Mike Claek (Sr) 6'5" Grady Games will continue tomorrow with the Bronx and Manhattan schools participating. In Other News; Youth Empowerment Team Member George Peters (HRU Class of 2003 #15) has transferred out of Msg. McClancy. George is now attending WC Bryant. * More about the PSAL on the latest coach's log.
Germain Mopa Visits Howard; Julian Thomas stays at St. John's Prep September 26, 2000 Madison Broncos Germain Mopa of Simsbury, CT. made an official visit to Howard University this past Weekend. Mopa who attends Masters Academy in CT. is said to make a decision after the Broncos season ends this Weekend at Yale University. Binghamton, Yale, Fairfield are in the mix, but Howard is the front runner. Mopa a native of Africa, played well for Doc Nicelli's squad at the Adidas Big Time Tournament in Vegas. In Other News; * Julian Thomas who attended St. Raymond's last year is enrolled at St. John's Prep in Astoria, Queens. Apparently Julian who has to sit out this year, was transferring to a public school due to monetary issues. Fortunately for Thomas, the school and Coach Cota, found him a sponsor. Julian played this past weekend with the Madison Broncos, and had a solid outing backing up Carl Krasuer at Rutgers. * Mike King scores 25 and Joe Vargas 13 to help Pest Control win over House of Pain at Youth Empowerment League.
Hudson Valley Top 100 Recap; Evangel Kings Roll at DPC September 25, 2000 Saturday was the 12th Annual Hudson Valley top 100 basketball School held at Fordham University. Kids from has far has Newburg New York came down to participate in the one day event. Over 30 coaches from various institutions of all Division came down to see the upcoming players. The Event, which is called by coaches "Division III Heaven, was very well run and the players had a great time. Gregory Cole Jr. a senior from Sleepy Hallow who is being heavenly recruited by State University of Buffalo and Lehman College told HRU that the "event gives Division II, III caliber player the opportunity to be seen by Division III schools from upstate and around the Metro area" And That is the goal of Hudson Valley Top 100. In that note the top players in the camp where: * Damon Davis (Sr) New Rochelle HS at 6'8 and 255 he was run the floor, rebound, play the post and shoot block. It's definitely a Division III Starter at his height and mobility. Can develop into a good Player with the right program. Has the chance to raise his stock this year. * Gregory Cole Jr. (Sr) a strong 6'3" guard from Terrytown, NY. Has the ability to shot, drive to the basket and play hard noise defense. Cole Jr. is a borderline Division II player. * Fred Delgado (Sr)6'2" from Lehman HS. At 220 lbs. Fred can be a great 2 guard for any division III Squad. Can Handle the ball and Box out. * Enller Garcia (Sr) 5'11" from Louis D. Brandeis HS is a quick guard with a good first step. * Keith Glober (Jr) 6'3" From Lehman HS, this kid can do it all. Rebound, run the floor, play defense and its not afraid of throwing it down. Built has a Very Short version of Chris Webber, Keith might develop in to a decent Division II player. * Dalton Loughlin (Sr.) Brooklyn Tech HS this 6'4" shooter was the best player in the camp. Very fundamental with basketball wits. Dalton plays under control plus he got grades. With a 1350 SAT's score Dalton will receive an academic scholarship, but can defiantly play Division II or III ball. * Adam McGuire (Jr.) from Scotia, NY. At 6'4" 190Lbs. Adam would end up at a strong Dvision II school. With size and strength, Adam its very active around the basket, and is a present on the boards. * Mark Anthony Wilson (Sr) from rice HS played well and at 6'3" can rebound the ball. Mark is a very strong athletic player. Can really develop into a good player in college. Other campers worth mentioning where: * Jonathan Walker (Sr) Lehman HS * Jay Warren (Sr) Sleeppy Hollows * Chris Wosleger (Sr) Holy Trinity (Huntington, NY) * Michael Charles (Jr) Middletown Overall the talent was fair and most important the campers had fun and got some exposure. In Other news; * Local teams from around the city participated in the "Converse Jam Fest" at Rutgers University this past weekend. Brooklyn USA brought up great play in the younger division and in the open, the Broncos and Wolfpack all went home early. * Evengel Kings which seem like Rice HS freshman team, roll over Youth Empowerment thsi past weekend at the Drazen Petrovic Classic. The Kings blew the game open behind Jasen Valdez 18 points. In the Second game Mike King soars for 14 2nd half points to give pest control the victory.
Mike King leads Pest Control to victory September 21, 2000 Mike King (Christ the King) led all scores with 26 points to lead his team, pest control, over the Runnin' Rebels Monday night at the Drazen Petrovic Youth Empowerment Fall Classic. In a very exciting game Pest Control held on late has the Runnin' Rebels made their charge late with help from Nigel Polite (Molloy) and Brian Kelly (Molloy). Ivan Marika (Molloy) and Mike King played well in the stretch to capture a 58-55 win. In the other game Youth Empowerment who led by has many as 16 points, let this one get away has House of Pain Brian Rizzo (Newtown) hit a game winning shot with time winding down. Youth Empwerment falls to Grady HS and Riverside (B) rolls over Wolfpack at IS8 September 20, 2000 Youth Empowerment losses to Grady HS last night at NIKE IS8 tip-off. Grady who led must of the way behind Jerome Richardson and Mike lark's 20 points. Youth Empowerment coach Nathan Blue a.k.a. Realscout, told HRU that "not taking anything away from Grady's win, but, My leading scorer Norman Simmons arrived late to the game...and 5 of my key guys where missing" None the less Team Empowerment where in this one late but the rebounding of Jerome Richardson was to much to overcome. In the second game, which was to be the highlight of the evening, saw Riverside "B" squad blowout The Wolfpack. This was never a game. Riverside took control of the game in the third quarter behind Dashawn Warren's 19 points. Lenny Cook, who must people feel, is the best player in the country was never in the game playing disorganized ball and was never a factor, playing no defense and really out of sink offensively. They where times that he didn't even run the floor. In other news; Max Collins who played at Newtown High School has told HRU that he will be attending Lehman College in January. Max who was Newtowns team captain last year chooses Lehman College over Queens College mainly because of Lehman Assistant Coach John Sanchez who is also a Newtown alumni. See HRU Coach's log for more on the Wolfpack and Lenny Cook.

The End of the Gauchos was never near Plus a Pack weekend ahead September 14
In the past few months rumors where out stating that the Gauchos was closing their GYM. Everybody in the basketball scene was waiting to see the result of all these rumors. So the days past and the nights went on, and we find the Gauchos still going strong, and ready to play tomorrow at Staten Island Five Star invitational, where they will face Shreveport at 9pm. I have receive information from Gauchos Coaches that the building that was for sale, which people confused with the Gauchos GYM, was the one next to it which the landlord put up for sale. It is true though that the Gauchos where and still are under NCAA investigation, but all these AAU teams in the city are in some way or another. The biggest problem the Gauchos have is that a College Coach is illegally coaching the team. Is that the right example to give kids? Well I'll be writing more on that topic in the coming days. The Gauchos do get grants to support their basketball programs and as of right now the Gauchos are still in business. In other news A pack weekend is ahead, with the five-star tournament and the Hoop Group Metro 100 at Seton Hall University in gear. Player's to watch these weekend will be: Leon Fuller, Robert Mitchel, Germain Mopa, Sean Dantler and Anthony Lalor
Youth Empowerment scares Ravens at IS8 September 13, 2000
Great day for basketball and the place to be was IS8 as Youth Empowerment played the Bronx Ravens. Game was great, YEI led by 14 till Alan Ray went crazy to give the Ravens a 5 point win. Youth Empowerment crew came out strong, but the experience Ravens just was too much for the up and coming Youth Empowerment crew. The suprise of the game was Devon Neckles of Youth Empowerment. In the second game Amadou Fall and Tommy Eddie played well for Boys and Girls had they beat Grady 64-60.
Carl Krauser cuts list down and IS8 kicks off September 12, 2000
Madison Broncos Carl Krauser of St. Thomas Moore Prep Visited Pitt last week, and according to sources close to me Carl had a great time, The school is building a new arena and the city is really exiting he said. Carl Krauser who narrow his school list to 4 said "Am looking for a school that can give me the best education and a brighter future, at this time basketball is secondery" he went on to say he has cut his list down to Pitt, Villanova, Hoftra and Texas. In other News Mark Riley of Bisho Ford Visited Quinnipiac and told me the School was great and he really enjoys Joe Disantis the head coach.
