"Time, Why You Trouble Me..."

Hootie and the Blowfish

July 2, 2002

One once believe that all man kind is the same, that maybe things wont change, that everything will always be the same.

The days of old, where young and old will share common wealth, and that we altogether will stay the same. Unfortunately for all, like one master said, everything must come to an end, it will all wash away. Sometimes, if you lucky it will come back, but we all know it will never be the same.

And so I also understand that it will not be the same. It can't be the same. I last writing Hoops Roundup on February 25 of the year 2001, maybe to sad to continue to write, I stop and so, for about a year I just follow, I analyzed and though. Many things have happened since I last wrote. Carl Krauser signed with Pitt, Jason Fraiser will be a cat and join Hoftra's pride, Jay Wright. Lenny Cook is a no go in the NBA Draft and many college underclassmens made underclassmans mistakes.

There was also many moves regarding coaches. There of course a meeting the figures the top AAU and high school coaches in NYC, a meeting that brought nothing to the table but at least it showed that maybe something can still be done to help the student-athletes. There where AAU directors stepping down and high school coaches getting fired.

So many things have happened since February 25, 2001. We lost many in these times, of course the lost of a young man, Nigel Polite. A kid with the gifts of God and the desire to be the best. Nigel was a young man that love to play basketball. I remember a game at the Drazen Pretrovic Fall classic run by Youth Empowerment, Inc. where Nigel was unstoppable. He scored 32 points and later said that basketball was one of his joys. He love the game and his family. There where many other loses, but none of a greater impact then that of September 11. America was attack, mankind was attack and at the end of the day, many families lost there love one. The College of Staten Island was impact by the attack. 5 of their alums where killed in the terrorist attacks. Many lives lost and further more impact by this tragedy.

There is a Spanish proverb that says Theres no evil that can hurt good and in this case good prevail over evil. We saw how America united, stronger then ever. And we saw this when AAU and high school coaches came together at the meeting in Brooklyn last May. Many will say that this meeting was brought by the big names of AAU ball, but it all started because now days people are looking for peace and harmony. I am trilled to see how the basketball community is cooping with the events of this past 14 months.

So I ask Time, why you trouble me? Why do you keep on ticking? Why do you move on? I learn this past year and a half that time teaches you a lesson, it teaches you that one must continue forward that one must move on. Improve, strengthen and follow your heart desire. My desire is to follow the game, see it grow and see it continue making an impact in young peoples life. And yes time does go on, but thats not a bad thing. Many coaches have realized mistakes and are improving to better their athletes life, athletes are realizing that the first word is Student-athlete and that time will give them promise.
